Report of Regular Meeting May 2004

The YMCA service night, presided by Mr. Yamanaka, was begun with the opening chime of the President, Mr. Tanaka. Y's song, Y's principles, reading of the Bible and prayer by Mr. Kooriyama, introduction of guests and visitors by the President, Mr. Tanaka, reports of the business committees and the YMCA. Mr. Kuroiwa reported: the regulation of the Tokyo Y's Mens Club Business Fund, the Tokyo Fund and the gift of celebration and funeral is proceeding on the revision work. If the directorate approve them in May, he propose them in the kickoff meeting in June. The member who has an opinion should attend the directorate next week. Mr. Ryozo Matsumoto, chairman of the Tokyo Y's Mens Club Business Fund, reported about the donation of Mr. and Ms. Kazuo Sato. Mr. Haga, secretary of the Tokyo YMCA, reported about the function of the Tokyo YMCA International Cooperation Fund with examples. The President, Mr. Tanaka, appealed for the urgent support fund to the train explosion accident in North Korea and the fund-raising campaign coffer went around in the meeting place.
We sang "Daily Bread". We had the longer time of dinner and talk than usual.
Mr. Sugo introduced the Musashino Student Hall Co. Ltd. whose 3 employees attend as guests. Mr. Toshihiro Arai of this company presented the Tojin Student Hall which equips catering. Next, Mr. Yamazoe, the new manager of the Toyocho Center of the Tokyo YMCA, greeted.
Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary: Mr. Tsuyuzaki spoke about his marriage of 50 years; he talked pleasant episodes: for the strike of the Tobu Railway, he postponed his wedding one month 50 years before. He emphasized that to walk is valuable healthily.
Next, the guest speech: Mr. Koriyama, chairman of the YMCA Service Committee introduced Mr. Hirokazu Arai, General Secretary of the Tokyo YMCA. He said: "They say that the title makes a person; his determination that the Tokyo YMCA must confront difficulty future makes Mr. Arai big." His speech entitled "the Tokyo YMCA until now and the Tokyo YMCA future" started. He distributed a lot of materials first, quoting the words of Mr. Junji Sakaguch: "When you have no contents, depend on papers." He explain that the YMCA is the group which works and prays for the other person; it began with the prayer in the United Kingdom. He told episodes: birth of the YMCA, formation in Japan, sports which the YMCA contrived. Next, he described politely according to the time flow: his career, time and background, activity state of the YMCA, his own reform. The last, he told his big thought to the sale of the Kanda Hall and its brightness. He appealed that the members of the Tokyo YMCA should not get something from YMCA; they becomes a volunteers for the people who were placed in a weak situation. He announced his thought and his idea. Next, he told the cooperation with the Y's men; he explained about the change of the number of staffs by a material: 234 in 1993; 73 at present. But the business plan is commensurate with 20 years before; he explained the member activity: a lot of persons are volunteers. He requested us to support them.
Next, Mr. Mochida appealed: "He expressed the determination that he will step forward forcefully. We will continue our active association with them and support them. We will support more Mr. Arai who is in a difficulty. All the attendees expressed their big approval by clapping.
Next, YMCA service hour. Mr. Jun Takagi, representative of Mandi, a group in the Tokyo YMCA who supports the Dhahapara Clinic in Bangladesh, and Mr. Yoshihiro Ono explained their activity and difficulty. They appealed our further cooperation. We contributed in the meeting.
Next, the President, Mr. Tanaka, presented to Mr. Oki, secretary of the Tokyo YMCA, the contributory list from the Tokyo Club to the Tokyo YMCA this year.
Last, the smile fine. We sang the song of YMCA. The chime of the President, Mr. Tanaka, closed the meeting.
