Appeal November 2004: Youths and their abundant imagination and creative power
Tsuyoshi Hosokawa, chairman of the CS-Wellness committee
The Nigata-Chuetsu earthquake occurred on October 23rd at evening. As we had the seismic intensity 4 in Tokyo, I was afraid of a catastrophe. Until the whole situation of damage was gradually proved, the civilian "professionals" of disaster support were moving quickly with their abundant imagination and creative power. Mr. Seiji Yoshimura, member of the Tokyo-Tama Y's Men's Club, who had been doing the volunteer activity of the flood damage recovery in Toyooka, came in the contingency planning headquarters of Ojiya on 24th at night. He sent the support information for earthquake disaster and flood damage simultaneously to the whole country. The disaster volunteers and the support person followed him in the whole country. They became big power. The YMCA is doing a lot of activities of disaster support. The above-mentioned "professionals" were not professionals from the beginning. Their motivation was their ardor to rescue the troubled peoples, which all the young persons had in those days, and their abundant imagination and creative power. Saying oppositely, any groups except the YMCA dominated by the youth, who has the abundant imagination and creative power, can not achieve the mission, being adaptable to the needs and evolution of the times.
This month, we invite the youth in our regular meeting and associate with them. Also, we upgrade the "Edo Castle Family Walk", our established custom, on November 23rd. We want not only to be a young man, but also to associate, learn and advance with the youth who will carry the YMCA, expecting the future of the YMCA.
