Appeal September 2007: Let's support YMCA.

Chisato Koriyama, chairperson of the YMCA Service Committee

The city YMCAs in not only Tokyo but also Japan undergo a wave of reform against the public service corporation now. The YMCA was born in London in 1844; he held a world meeting in Paris in 1855 to establish the "Paris Basis"; the "Kampala Principles" was established to cope with a social change; the "YMCA Basic Principles" are confirmed in Japan. In the current reform, The Japanese nation or society brings into question the public interest characteristics of YMCA once again.
There is a observation: "no problem because it is a member movement". But in reality, circumstances are different from the Y's men's clubs who are right a member movement. The activities who were developped in childcare, welfare, field service and education are specialized and grow big in scale and a social responsibility and a fitness management are asked. It is a secretary general, secretaies and the other staffs who administer them routinely.
The Y's men's clubs are a member movement from the view point of YMAC. We are asked not to stay in a Y's men's club, but to be a member of YMCA and support it by money, intelligence and physical labor. In particular, the activity of "Member Part" is right a realization of the YMCA's member movement. The Tokyo Club offers "Edo Castle Wellness Family Walk" every year as a program. Let's promote it more and participate in various member activities positively.
