Takahiro Nagasawa, Secretary
The regular meeting of October "EMC Night" was presided by Mr. Hosokawa, vice-chairperson of the EMC Committee, and held according to the program. The goal of the regular meeting of October is the invitation of our friend and acquaintance and the attendance of all the members. After the opening chime of the President Mr. Nakamura, the Y's song and the reading of the Bible, we listened the report of each committee: request of a voluntary contribution to the BF and the philately of used stamps; request of the participation and the cooperation to the "Edo Castle Family Walk" being held on November. Ms. Natsuko Okitsu, secretary in charge of the Tokyo YMCA, reported the results of the Summer Festival (Aug. 25th, in the Toyocho Center of the Tokyo YMCA, 550 visitors, 470,000 yen of profits), the street campaign for the International Cooperation Fund (Sep. 8th, around the Shibuya station, 260 campaigners, 630,000 yen of donation) and the International Charity Run.
We enjoyed the Y's dinner, meal of western style which we had after a long time as meal of regular meeting: soup, beef stew, salad and bread.
[Mr. Kasamatsu compares a zurna and a clarinet]
The guest speaker was Mr. Yasuhiro Kasamatsu, composer, script writer and conductor, graduate of the arts section of the Tokyo University. The subject was "The drama, the literature and the music". He spoke about the music and the civilization mainly. He told his rith activities of music which he experienced when he took charge of the music in the drama directed by Mr. Yukio Hirukawa. He played the hichiriki, vertical pipe of the court music of Japan which is used from about 2000 years before, and the zurna and the sipsi which he bought in Turkey. The timbre of hichiriki and the big sound of zurna and sipsi were impressive especially. We applauded the humorous speech of the hopeful composer who crosses the border of genre in the new age.
